What are shockwaves?
Shockwaves are a type of high-energy sound pressure waves applied to specific areas of the body. In the case of shockwave therapy for ED, the shockwaves are directed towards the erectile tissue in the penis to promote healing and improve blood flow.
What happens in the body?
The treatment initiates several processes in the treated areas. It stimulates the formation of new blood vessels and the release of nitric oxide (NO) in the penis, leading to increased penile swelling and stronger erections. Additionally, shockwaves trigger both anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects and activate stem cells to build new, healthy tissue. These effects do not occur immediately but develop during the treatment and in the weeks following its completion.
Results
During the treatment or within a few weeks, most men start experiencing a noticeable improvement with harder and longer-lasting erections, morning erections, and increased libido. The effect lasts up to 2 years, after which ED may recur. In such cases, the treatment can be repeated.
There are several scales and questionnaires (e.g., IIEF and EHS) that can be used to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. Numerous scientific studies conducted at various clinics worldwide have demonstrated that LiSWT is a highly effective treatment when administered following a proper assessment of the cause of ED. These studies have also shown that the treatment is safe and does not produce side effects.
