The treatment is primarily aimed at problems of vascular origin, Induration Penis Plastics, and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS). Many scientific studies show good effects of focused shockwave therapy for these indications.
Shockwave therapy does not work with the same good effect in cases of nerve damage after surgery, injuries to the lower back, after surgery and radiation therapy of the prostate, or untreated testosterone deficiency. Shockwave therapy is a well-established non-invasive method where low-intensity shockwaves are applied to the skin to stimulate tissue regeneration. The treatment is done at a clinic 8-12 times and then the majority of patients regain full or partial function. The effect normally lasts up to 2 years before it needs to be replenished.
Normally 8-12 treatments are needed. The number varies depending on the degree of impaired function, lifestyle, and other underlying causes.
The treatment is not painful. Since the treatment is performed with shockwaves, it sounds like small snaps and feels like vibrations, but it is not painful. Afterwards, during the healing process, patients have reported feeling a little tightness, but the number is few and there is no pain.
